After 18 days traveling across Europe, coming home to Kalamazoo felt grounding in ways I didn’t expect. Snow on the ground, family nearby, and ordinary routines brought a renewed sense of gratitude. Travel reminds me why home matters, and why it’s just as important to go while you can as it is to come back and appreciate the quiet moments.

After two weeks of moving through Europe, we ended our trip with four relaxed days in London. From the Changing of the Guard and a Liverpool day trip focused on the Beatles to quiet dinners with family and a final slice of cake at a small café, London gave us space to slow down, reflect, and land softly before heading home.

Budapest was the final stop on our Danube River cruise, but staying two extra nights transformed it into something unforgettable. From a hotel room overlooking the Danube to a four-hour tuk tuk tour as Christmas lights came on, the city felt alive, confident, and deeply rooted in its history. Giving Budapest time at the end of the cruise changed how the entire journey settled in memory.

Thanksgiving on the Danube was less about Christmas markets and more about moving slowly through Central Europe, one port at a time. Sailing from Passau to Budapest on Viking Aegir, we explored snow-dusted cities, quiet abbeys, and historic capitals, sometimes on guided excursions and sometimes simply on foot. From Salzburg and Český Krumlov to Budapest’s Cave Church, the rhythm of river travel made this trip unforgettable.
